Back Pain | Physical Therapy for everyBODY

Are you tired of missing out on life because of your lower back pain?  Are you looking for someone who can explain what is going on with your back pain and help your body move correctly - so you can live the life you were born for?

Did you see a doctor only to be told to rest and take pain medication? Only to find that rest and pain medication didn't actually deal with the problem.

Do you refuse to believe that low back pain is "normal" with aging? And, that you aren't going to give up on what you love to do?

Do you feel like your back pain is never going to go away?

If so you’re not alone. In fact, every day at Physical Therapy for everyBODY we help people just like you! And when it comes to living with back pain, you want to know:

“Why Do I Still Have Low Back Pain?”

or

“What Makes You Different From The Other Physical Therapy Clinic I’ve Tried Before?”

Most people think that all Physical Therapy is the same. If you’ve tried Physical Therapy before and left without having your goals met, there is hope! If your Physical Therapy experience consisted of a generic sheet of exercises without individualized hands on treatment, you’ve had what we call a “typical” Physical Therapy experience.

Sadly, this describes the treatments most people experience before coming to see us for their low back pain. No wonder you may be thinking of getting an injection or taking pain medication, even though they are short term treatments. Or that you’re considering the surgery your doctor recommended because you feel like that is the only way to get rid of this low back pain.

Does That Sound Like You?

Does it feel like no one is really listening to your low back pain journey and hearing what you’re saying? Do you wish that someone would listen to your whole story about your lower back pain and put the pieces of this puzzle together for you? We believe that hearing your story is the first step towards building your plan for success in eliminating your lower back pain.

Are you frustrated that the doctor, and everyone else, is telling you to rest when you are really looking for a way out of this low back pain? If you’re active, or desire to be, rest is rarely the best advice because when you go back to doing what you love, the problem is still there.

You may be confused about what you can do safely without aggravating your low back pain.  The internet is full of back stretches and exercises that guarantee "immediate relief" but may not be working for you and your low back pain.

Has This Type of Thing Happened to You?

You may be confused because you’ve been told different things, by different people. There are lots of people out there who are happy to dispense advice - but not all of it is credible.

Maybe you think your back pain was caused by doing something - like lifting or sleeping awkwardly. But the truth is it was caused by years and years of poor movement. This caused the muscles in your low back to become weak and ineffective. When the muscles aren't working properly then the joints can't move correctly. Over time, this leads to problems.

Or maybe you searched the internet to find low back stretches to help relieve your symptoms.  What you found only caused your low back pain to increase and left you frustrated.  You may even feel helpless wondering if you can ever get back to living a life not limited by pain.

You may even be starting to believe that there is no one who can help you with your low back pain and it is "normal as you get older".

Do You Feel That Way Too?

Here’s 7 More Reasons Why Your Low Back Pain Could Be Lasting Longer Than It Should:

  • You thought/hoped your lower back pain would magically go away on its own - but it didn’t.
  • The doctor told you to rest, take painkillers and muscle relaxers – but the pills did little to help your back and as soon as they wore off your back pain struck again!
  • A family member, or friend, told you that everybody gets back pain as they get older, so you just accepted it as a ‘normal’ part of aging.
  • You tried other Healthcare Professionals, or even a Physical Therapist in the past, but it just didn’t seem to make your low back pain better.
  • You searched the internet, found some stretches for your lower back pain that promised immediate relief but they either didn’t do a thing, or even made your Back Pain ten times worse.
  • You thought it would be a good idea to rest because your back pain was so bad or because the back stretches didn't work, but all that did was make it feel even more stiff and tight.
  • You decided to get a few “massages” hoping that would fix the pain. But all they did was feel nice and relaxing. And didn’t do anything to fix it long term.

If any of these have happened to you - we would love to help you by inviting you to book a call to talk with one of our Specialists at our Maple Valley clinic, Physical Therapy for everyBODY, to find out what can be done to help YOU. The fact that you’ve tried any or all of these things already is actually a GOOD THING because when you know what doesn’t work, you are closer to finding the thing that does!

We believe – actually we KNOW – that 90% of all musculoskeletal injuries (aches, pain, and strains) can be solved without prescribing medication, without injections, and certainly without surgery! What Can I Do to Get Rid of My Back Pain And Keep It From Coming Back?

Well, here are 4 things you can do:

  • Start by Making a Decision to Get Help From a Specialist- You have seen the doctor who told you to rest, tried the YouTube videos that didn’t work and hoped it would go away. You suddenly find yourself 6 months down the line and nothing has changed except the list of all the things you can’t do because of your low back pain.
  • Do The RIGHT Exercises – One of the best things to help you ease your back pain is the correct series of progressed exercises. The right exercises given to you by a Specialist Physical Therapist will provide pain relief and allow you to move more easily. And we can make sure that you get to the root of what’s causing the problem, so it won’t come back anytime soon (or aggravate your back and make it even worse like some exercises do).
  • Avoid Sitting and Long Periods of Rest - Ever struggle to get up from the couch after watching TV for an hour because your back feels painful and tight? One of the worst things for back pain is rest and sitting for long periods of time. Too much rest and sitting in awkward positions, like crossing your legs, makes your back stiff and tight. It would really help if you were given the right tools to actually help your back move better. Along with hands-on treatment, to get you active and healthy as quickly as possible.
  • Get Real, Hands-On Physical Therapy - Physical Therapy is proven to help people with Low Back Pain. In fact, at Physical Therapy for everyBODY it’s one of the most common injuries we see. If your back pain is affecting your job, your ability to keep active, if it threatens your independence or gets in the way of spending quality time with family and friends - Physical Therapy can help get you back to living the life you deserve as quickly as possible.

I had CT scans, other kinds of scans, went to the back doctor, went to chiropractors, went to other physical therapists and I couldn't get anything to heal. And I couldn't get answers to why this continued to happen to me where I just couldn't sit down. I couldn't lift. I couldn't vacuum. I just couldn't function...

I had a sciatic nerve problem. I went to my GP and was given painkillers that helped temporarily. Moved on to an orthopedic surgeon but all the ideas were about extreme efforts to try to remedy the sciatic issue. I couldn't stand very well. Couldn't sit, couldn't sleep. Walking was difficult. Once I started coming to see Dr. Amy it changed everything for me. My pain receded to the point where I could play tennis again.

I was just miserable. I could barely walk. I'm a kindergarten teacher and I was still working. I still have no idea how, but getting from one place to another, I was so slow. I could barely move. I couldn't get down on the floor with the kids. I couldn't kneel, I couldn't sit on the floor. Now I'm walking two miles a day...
