Sciatica Pain Relief Without Surgery or Medication: What Actually Works

Watch now:

If you’ve ever dealt with sciatica, you know how quickly it can hijack your life. That shooting pain down your leg, the numbness, the weakness—it makes simple things like walking, sitting, or even sleeping feel impossible.

And the worst part? Most people are told to wait it out, take pain meds, or get an injection… and maybe someday consider surgery.

But that’s not your only option.

At Physical Therapy for everyBODY, we specialize in helping people find lasting relief from sciatica—without drugs, injections, or surgery. In fact, many of our patients say, “I wish I’d found you sooner!”

What Is Sciatica, Really?

Sciatica isn’t a diagnosis—it’s a symptom.
It means your sciatic nerve is irritated or compressed, often due to:

  • A herniated disc
  • Spinal stenosis
  • SI joint misalignment
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Muscle imbalances or poor movement habits

Why Traditional Sciatica Treatments Often Fall Short

If you’ve tried rest, ice, painkillers, or even cortisone shots, you might have seen temporary relief, but not real healing.

That’s because these treatments don’t address the underlying cause—like muscle imbalances, misaligned joints, or stuck nerves that need to move freely.

And surgery? It’s often unnecessary—and comes with risks.

What Actually Works for Sciatica Relief?

We explain it all in this video:

How to Kill Sciatica Pain

Here’s what we focus on instead:

  • 1. Identify the trueroot cause: Not all sciatica is the same. We perform a detailed movement assessment to find where your nerve is getting stuck—and why.
  • 2. Mobilize the nerve (not just stretch) Gentle nerve glides and mobility work help your sciatic nerve move smoothly through your hips and legs again—without irritation.
  • 3. Fix joint alignment and muscle imbalances: Often the SI joint or pelvis is misaligned, placing stress on the nerve. Restoring balance can dramatically reduce pain.
  • 4. Strengthen what’s weak, relax what’s tight: Sciatica often results from overuse of certain muscles and underuse of others. We guide you in building back proper movement patterns.

I Thought I’d Need Surgery… But I Didn’t”

We’ve helped hundreds of people return to running, hiking, working, and playing with their kids—without needing surgery or living on pain meds. All through a personalized, holistic approach focused on what your body actually needs to heal.

Dr. Amy Konvalin

Dr. Amy Konvalin

Struggling with pain and dysfunction can impact every part of our lives — it drains our energy, distracts us from our goals, and keeps us from the people and activities we love. As an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, Dr. Amy Konvalin understands how frustrating those limitations can be — and she knows how to help get you back to the life you want to live! Beginning with a focused evaluation, Dr. Amy works to determine the root causes of your pain, as well as understanding how it affects the way you move through your world. Dysfunctional patterns of movement often grow worse with time and cause further damage if left untreated — so it’s important to address these issues as soon as possible. Dr. Amy knows there is no one-size-fits-all plan for success, and she partners with patients to identify their unique treatment goals and personal values. Using these goals as a guide, Amy uses her doctorate training in manual (hands-on) therapy and exercise prescription to treat patients with a wide variety of medical challenges and histories throughout the Maple Valley, Black Diamond and Covington areas. Dr. Amy is also a wife to a Boeing superstar/former C-130 navigator. While they lived in Germany, Dr. Amy was able to volunteer with the US Army to treat military personnel and civilians on base. She has two beautiful teenage ballerinas who keep her on her toes and educate her on all things ballet! Bailey, the princess pup, is her running partner and her napping partner. In the spare moments in between, Amy enjoys reading, yoga, wine with friends, Pilates, and walking on the beach.
