Top 5 Lessons From The Past 5 Years

Anniversary

Happy Anniversary to Physical Therapy for everyBODY! We are turning 5 years old and couldn’t be more excited about what the future holds!

Only 50% of businesses make it to their 5 year anniversary. With the current issues going on, I expect that number is even less. I remain so very grateful that we have survived the hardships of starting up and Covid to make it to this special day.

I am filled with gratitude that YOU helped us get there. Because without our amazing tribe there is no PT4EB. From the very bottom of my heart and with the deepest humility, I thank you.

In return, I offer you 5 lessons I have learned over my 5 year journey that you can apply to your life – today. When you do, please send me an email at DrAmy@pt4eb.com and tell me about it. I love sharing in your journey.

5 Lessons I Have Learned Over My 5 Year Journey That You Can Apply to Your Life

Lesson 1

Perfection Is Over-Rated.

I admit it. I am the typical Type A personality that likes to have all the steps laid out before I take the first one. Usually. That is NOT how this company started. If you haven’t heard the story before then let me sum it up. I quit my job before I even had the inkling of a thought to start my own company.

Literally. I went home and told Matt: “I quit my job today. What am I going to do?”

He responded: “Start your own company. It’s the only thing you CAN do!”

That conversation was literally how an entire company was started. There wasn’t a plan, no vision board, nothing. Which, to be fair, is not how I recommend starting a company. But, you can’t always wait until all the stars are aligned, the ducks are in a row, or the timing is perfect.

Sometimes, you simply take the next best step. You take the step that looks to head in the correct direction. And, you work hard to make it successful.

Lesson 2

Plans are helpful… but don’t let them stop you.

Once I had spent some time, money, and energy figuring out this business thing, I was ready to create a plan. This plan was detailed and included who I needed on my team. It even included when I needed to hire them. I was ready to move forward.

Enter Covid.

When our state went into a lockdown so did my mind. Complete survival mode. Very primitive thinking.

Let me insert here – when you are working from a place of fear, you do not make the best decisions. Please be mindful of your mindset before making any big decisions. Ask yourself if this decision is based on fear or a mindset of lack. If you are stuck in a pit of fear – get yourself out before making any decisions. Find some firm footing so your mind can think clearly.

At the time of lockdown, I had one employee in the company besides me. We were supposed to be in the process of hiring Employee #2. That hiring plan got put on the back burner as I stopped paying myself a salary. I needed to make sure that I could pay my one employee for as long as possible. That is painful and troubling to admit but you might remember what difficult times those were.

What I missed out on during those fear filled days was the opportunity to connect with my one staff member and reinforce my vision for the future.

Because…

Lesson 3

Growing People May Cause Them To Move Away From You… Do It Anyway

In the midst of Covid, as the company was getting back on its’ feet, my first hire told me she was going back to school to start her own company.

Initially, I was devastated. I was sad. And, I was angry.

This would be followed by other employees who I invested in who would also decide to move along other paths. Each time I am a little sad…and yet super proud.

For me, it is much like seeing my oldest baby fly off to college and all the future holds for her. She dreams of becoming an astronaut. She is taking the first steps by getting a degree in Engineering. This path will most likely lead her to another state – or maybe even another planet! Although I will miss not seeing my mini me every day, I am excited to see all that her future holds for her.

What parenthood and this company have taught me is that we may only have a season of life together. Let’s use that time to grow. To encourage each other. To make the other person stronger. More confident. A better version of themselves.

I see it with you, my awesome patients every day. As each of you become more mobile, stronger, and more aware of what’s going on in your body, you spend less time with me. Know that I am proud of all you have accomplished and I am always here for you.

Growing children, growing staff, growing friends, growing yourself – causes the atmosphere to shift.

DO IT ANYWAY!

Lesson 4

Negative Thoughts Are The Biggest Energy Suck

Hey, we all do it! But, do you realize how much you do it?

Negative self-talk is rampant in the best of times. But how much time to we spend preparing for dinner with Aunt Ruth who will go on for days about her political views? Very loudly! How much time do you waste rehearsing what you are going to say for the debate that will occur at the next family dinner?

Do you realize how much oxygen your brain spends on rehearsing these scenarios and developing clever responses? Or is that just me?

What if, instead of wasting our time (which is our greatest resource) worrying over and thinking about these things, we spent our time focusing on those around us. And how to love them best. How to uplift them to become the best version of themselves. Do you think that would make the world a better place?

YES!

And, when you spend time boosting someone else up you aren’t focused on yourself. Plus, there’s a bonus of good feelings that come from helping others. Which causes your brain to be more focused on the outward world. Causing you less time for the negative voices inside your head.

Lesson 5

Have Fun. Why Not?

Why not have fun and enjoy this beautiful life we have. You and I each get one life to live so why not make the most of it?

My goal is to work hard, have fun, and move my body on a daily basis. Sure, there are days when there is more work and less fun. And, you probably know how very much I hate doing paperwork. But, doing the paperwork allows you to get reimbursed which is important to me. So, I can sacrifice a little bit of time working to bring about the fun part – helping to transform your life by getting you moving.

What have you done for fun today?

There you have it. My 5 things that I have learned in 5 years. My hope is in the next 5 years I will grow and have even better thoughts to share with you.

Speaking of fun…In celebration of this momentous occasion we have presents for everyone. If you will be joining us in the clinic this week we will have your anniversary present ready when you get here. And, if you don’t have an appointment this week but you still want to party with us (and get your present!) feel free to give us a call at (425)659-4944 and let us know what time to expect you. We would be honored for you to take time out of your day to celebrate with us.

We even got a present for the clinic. Last week we ordered a Balanced Body reformer and we couldn’t be more excited about the arrival. You see, Dr. Amy received her Pilates training right before having children. Well, since the oldest is headed off to college, Dr. Amy decided it was time to dust off those skills and bring Pilates back into the practice. This reformer will assist patients looking to improve their core control and activation with daily activity. We will also implement it with training for those looking for individualized instruction before heading to a bigger studio for group classes.

As always at PT4EB, the reformer and Pilates training will be offered in a one-on-one environment. That way you can get the individualized adjustments you need for your reformer practice.

The reformer should be here at the beginning of October. Of course, we will be sure to let you know when it arrives and is ready for all of your core training needs. If you would like to be on our “First Look List” send an email to concierge@pt4eb.com and you will receive an invitation to the exclusive reveal party.

We are humbled by your support of our company and grateful you are part of our tribe!

Dr. Amy Konvalin

Struggling with pain and dysfunction can impact every part of our lives — it drains our energy, distracts us from our goals, and keeps us from the people and activities we love. As an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, Dr. Amy Konvalin understands how frustrating those limitations can be — and she knows how to help get you back to the life you want to live! Beginning with a focused evaluation, Dr. Amy works to determine the root causes of your pain, as well as understanding how it affects the way you move through your world. Dysfunctional patterns of movement often grow worse with time and cause further damage if left untreated — so it’s important to address these issues as soon as possible. Dr. Amy knows there is no one-size-fits-all plan for success, and she partners with patients to identify their unique treatment goals and personal values. Using these goals as a guide, Amy uses her doctorate training in manual (hands-on) therapy and exercise prescription to treat patients with a wide variety of medical challenges and histories throughout the Maple Valley, Black Diamond and Covington areas. Dr. Amy is also a wife to a Boeing superstar/former C-130 navigator. While they lived in Germany, Dr. Amy was able to volunteer with the US Army to treat military personnel and civilians on base. She has two beautiful teenage ballerinas who keep her on her toes and educate her on all things ballet! Bailey, the princess pup, is her running partner and her napping partner. In the spare moments in between, Amy enjoys reading, yoga, wine with friends, Pilates, and walking on the beach.
